Flippin’ Beautiful
Before I even part my lips
There is a sinister history with which I’ve got to come to grips.
Men saying whatever comes to mind
Not comprehending or caring that a compliment could be unkind.
It was believed that the eye of the beholder
Is where beauty was, and a lady had no way to know unless you told her.
But instead,
You’re beautiful and you know
You don’t need to be told
You’re flipping that idea of beauty on its head.
(G)You are (Em) So Oh (C)oh flippin’ (D)beautiful
Totally taking it and owning it and making it your own
And I’m going to go ahead and say it’s not ‘cause someone said it was so
You just know you’re so flippin beautiful.
Makeup might be one thing
But I think it’s high time we stopped
With the magazine cover girls being unnecessarily over-photoshopped.
Oh you know, we all got a lot of flaws
But that doesn’t provide just cause just because
I see women unapologetically apathetic about standards of what is theoretically aesthetic
and I’m almost ecstatic seeing you while you’re smashing this
Patriarchal prison of a past with a passion.
(G)You are (Em) So Oh (C)oh flippin’ (D)beautiful
Totally taking it and owning it and making it your own
And I’m going to go ahead and say it’s not cause someone said was so
You just know you’re so flippin beautiful.
Ok
If I’d see you passing by I’d probably flash you a smile,
Something superb but subdued and subtle, that’s my style.
And while I’ll maybe never have such a chance
Your beauty doesn’t depend upon some such sort of circumstance.
And so I’m taking the time to tell you what it is that I know even though
My own observation isn’t any justification for Saying so, because you already know.
(G)You are (Em) So Oh (C)oh flippin’ (D)beautiful
Totally taking it and owning it and making it your own
And I’m going to go ahead and say it’s not cause someone said was so
You just know you’re so flippin beautiful.
